Reunion 12 - 14 March 2010 Newsletter of January 2010

Introduction

This is the last newsletter before we all meet at Rotorua on 12 March. Planning is proceeding well and the numbers attending, although short of the 100% we had hoped for, will ensure a memorable reunion. The newsletter contents include:
  • The Programme
  • The Book - Voices from a Border War
  • Attendance
  • Tribute

The Programme

The programme covers events which affect us all. Many of you will have made individual bookings with our events organiser and these are structured around the main programme. For the Saturday evening dinner and the Sunday parade the observance of the dress standard is important to the dignity of the occasions - we know that you understand this and will want to conform - in any case the RSM will be watching for defaulters!

The Book - Voices From a Border War

The reprint of Bob Gurr's book "Voices from a Border War" is to be launched by General Don McIver, CMG, OBE, during the reunion weekend and copies will be available at a special price to members of the Battalion family. The book is a hard covered edition of the original with only a few changes to detail. It is most attractively presented and, even for those who retain a copy of the first printing, it should be a treasured acquisition.

Attendance

If you have not yet registered, please do so now using the form attached. By registering you make the planning easier and the result better. However, if you arrive unregistered, you will still be most welcome. You may have noticed from the media reports that Rotorua has again won the national award for New Zealand's most beautiful city and, for reunion weekend we have arranged perfect weather.

If you are arriving by plane or bus please remember to send your arrival details to the Rotorua RSA so that transport to your accommodation can be arranged. If wheelchair transport is required please let us know asp. For those travelling from Australia you may be aware that there are now direct flights from Sydney to Rotorua and return (of course) twice a week. These will eventually be increased in number and will include departure cities Melbourne and Brisbane.

Tribute

You may be aware that our Commanding Officer, Bob Gurr, is suffering from ill-health at his home in Australia. He has prepared a message to his old comrades and that will be read at the reunion dinner. The organising committee will of course keep him informed and provide him with a final report when we are all safely home.
